Dusting off the cobwebs

Wow, August of 2006 was the last time I posted here? Yowsers. I guess I should have more to show for my time away, but not really. Hmm, well since then I have worked on a show called Chaotic. I worked on the backgrounds for it and I'm quite proud of the work I did. It was the first REAL work that I have done. And the fact that is was for a show that is on the Saturday morning FOX block? Well that's just the sprinkles on the donut.

I went to the Caribbean last February (jeez, has it already been a year since then?) and that's when I met my girlfriend, Amber. She's a wonderful girl who makes me feel very special. But I'm not going to get too personal here, as it is a public blog (granted, one that to date, not one person has ever read, so this kind of stands as my own personal journal).

Anyway, as it stands now, I'm unemployed, my relationship status is confusing, and I have more time on my hands. What have I been filling it with, you might ask? You probably wouldn't, you'd more likely ask why I'm not looking for a new job instead of writing a blog at four in the morning on a Tuesday, but for the purposes of this exercise, let's say you did. To which I would answer: Nothing.

Not entirely true, but maybe 'nothing important' is a better qualifier. I've been reading, mostly Harry Potter fanfics, but I've also been reading 'A Confederacy of Dunces' by John Kennedy Toole. I've also been dabbling in some puzzling, mostly at the MIT Puzzle Hunt site. I really enjoy getting into the intricacies of the meta-puzzles, although admittedly, they are usually somewhat beyond my grasp. I've been involved in a fantasy hockey league that takes up a lot of my time. I'm sitting in fourth right now, and considering my team, I think I could be doing better. I've made some bad choices (Poti, Schaefer, Kuba, Byfuglien) and had some lame ducks (Cheechoo, Kozlov, Holmqvist, Modano, Zubrus), but I've had new blood more than pull their weight (Sharp, Ribeiro, Leclaire, Antropov, Langenbrunner). I won last year, so I'm not too disappointed with where I am. Next year will be interesting.

I've been catching up on my TV. Being a Canadian without premium channels, means I often turn to the net to see what others are talking about. I used to be an ardent fan of tv-links.co.uk, and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. But then the man had to come down on him, a 25-year old from London, and the site went down. As we all know, when one revolution is quelled, five more will take its place. I have searched for new life in the realm of streaming video sites, and I have found two that have served me well lately: surfthechannel.com and Project FreeTV are two excellent sites that have extensive links to both TV and movies. Lately I've been watching some or all of the following:
  • Mad Men
  • The Wire
  • Californication
  • Dexter
  • Rome
  • Life
  • The Chasers War on Everything
  • Peep Show
  • Breaking Bad
  • Torchwood
  • The Riches
  • Flight of the Conchords
  • Tim and Eric's Awesome Show: Great Job!
  • and Burn Notice
I've also been seeing a lot of stuff online that tickles my various fancies. I'm gonna save that for another day, but I should do it soon before I just forget about it again. So until then, auf weidersehen and chip chip cheerio.
